Surf Expo
Team Pain SkateArt at the SURF EXPO
Fridays Skate event had the biggest turnout of all 3 days. With the help of all the talented skaters and even the crowd, we were able to hold multiple best trick contests on five different pieces of SkateArt. Starting out on the Concrete Manual Pad, "Little John" killed it with his Switch heel to Switch back tail winning him a $50.00 hooters gift card, get this guy some buffalo wings! Moving on to the unique Zebra Striped "Florida Barrier", TJ Sparks was the only one grinding the coping from end to end and won the contest with a Nosegrind Stalefish up and out. Freddie Tan was also killing it, with huge backside ollies into the tight transition.

On to the Yellow curved bench which also escalated from low to high. Tim Payne took $40 out of his pocket and put it in a hat to pass around the crowd and ended up with $185 with the help of the spectators! Aaron Collier took the first $80 with a sick Frontside Smith grind from the low end, all the way through with a Frontside flip out the high end. With $105 left, the rest of the money was given out to some tricks done on the Diamond shaped ledge.

The last contest of the day was on the wavy red bench at 14' long. But that didn’t faze Timmy Knuth from shutting the spot down with a Kickflip Crook grinding all 14' and ending with a Bigspin out. Timmy went home with tickets for 4 worth $300 to the Pirates Dinner Adventure Show, $25 bucks and a backpack full of goodies.

For the Saturday show, We held a best photo contest where each skater took three attempts to capture the sickest photo for cash. Rippers like Freddie Tan, TJ sparks, Timmy Knuth, Matt Henry, AJ Kohn, Cody Eurich, JJ from ONEskatebords, Kevin Sikes, Dalton Dern, Alex Sergente, Kaason Clark, Billy Rivera and Chad Tepper were all killing it!

Friday was definitely an Epic show and we want to thank all the skaters and spectators for the talent and support!

Surf Expo "Atomic Jigsaw on a Stick" 2008
Another year of madness on the mini ramp at the Surf Expo, it seems that every year, the little rippers keep getting younger. And Volcom was just as crazy with corndogs, jaw breakers and Waffles shaped like the Volcom Stone which all ended up on the ramp in a huge mess of syrup and all the rest. The AM contest was on another level this year with some super technical tricks and high dollar pay. David Loy took first place and took $2,000 home, Curren Caples took 2nd with $1,500, Shawn Hale took 3rd and a grand, George Evans came in at 4th and $800, and the last $700 went to Jeremy Knibbs taking 5th place and they all deserved every penny. There was a best trick contest with some intense trickery going down, David Loy took home a grand with his f/s nosegrind across the whole banked extension back into the ramp, Dave Bachinsky stuck a clean frontside blunt kickflip in for $500 and last but definitely not least, George Evans blasted a huge kickflip off the extension deck back into the transition below getting him $300 bones.

VOLCOM'S SAUSAGE FEST MINI RAMP JAM
Once again Team Pain designed and built Volcom's 2nd mini ramp contest at the Surf Expo tradeshow in Orlando. Aptly named “Sausagefest” with last year’s dubbed "Nutstravaganza", we’ll see what next year’s name will bring. The Sausagefest ramp at 64 feet wide contained an 8ft, and 7ft extensions with flashing lights underneath the coping to give a big bang feel to the large purse prize of $20,000, double from last year’s prize money. Skaters like Kyle Berard, Dennis Busenitz, Anthony Furlong, Mike Peterson, Benji Galloway, Donny Barley just to name a few, skated the hell out of this ramp. Team Pain’s own, Ben Andrews, from Gainesville, took 3rd place in the Amateur contest. Woo-hoo!!
