This infamous ramp featured in the legendary “The Search for Animal Chin” skate video was built by Mr. Tim Payne, owner and president of Team Pain. For those of you that don’t know this famous skate video, it’s a classic. The film was the first skate video which actually had a plot and showed the many different facets of riding skate spots. Powell Skateboards contacted Tim in 1987 to collaborate with them on one of the most remarkable vert ramps ever built. This secret project was built in Oceanside, CA right under everyone’s noses’ and amazingly no one knew about it. The wood ramp featured the first ever vert spine, a mini ramp built onto the deck, an escalator, a 5 foot wide channel, a 3 foot tall extension and the “secret tunnel” that pulled out and could be skated through.

The film starred the original “Bones Brigade”; Mike McGill, Tommy Guerrero, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero and Tony Hawk. This ramp inspired numerous creative lines that helped pave the way for vert skating that we know today.
