Finally, Florida’s southeast coast is getting a Team Pain skate park! The Town of Sunny Isles Beach, located just north of Miami Beach, requested proposals for a skate park back in December of 2009. Team Pain and West Construction received the award to design and build the skate park. It was less than a year from the original bid that Team Pain and West, got awarded, designed and began construction on this skate park! Our construction is expected to be complete in time for Thanksgiving!
The city really wanted to provide a safe area for the kids to skate. After numerous reports of good; local kids skateboarding in areas that they were not supposed to, the Police Department and Parks Department expressed the need to provide a skate park for the young kids so they could practice their activity without being hassled. The Municipal leaders approved a plan for a skate park and wanted to concentrate on the beginner and intermediate street skaters. There was one challenge; a location! Sunny Isles is basically a small town with mostly developed real estate, so land was hard to come by. The only site available had tricky soil conditions; we creatively collaborated with West and came up with solutions to address the soil and designed a sick little street plaza that perfectly fits the needs of the community and city. At only 7,200sf, the skate plaza will be full of street offerings. Check out these “you saw it first” photos from the construction site as it begins to take shape.
