So, last weekend the Apollo Beach Skatepark had a grand opening event. From the looks of the Hillsborough County Facebook page the event went pretty well.
There is a story to go along with the opening of this park that we wanted to share… Below is a message we received from Sandy Z. Duran:
“Hi! I just want to tell you guys that we are a big fan of yours. Our son Diego watched the progress of the Apollo Beach park and other parks from the hospital for months. He had to give up skating after someone decided to celebrate the new year by shooting their gun to the sky. Diego nearly lost his life from that bullet piercing his skull.
Now he’s home and has come a long way as he is even back in school!
We are honored because the county is dedicating the skating plaza to him tomorrow, naming it the Diego Duran Skating Plaza – This Sat. at 10am.
I’m not sure if any of you will make it there, so I decided to thank you via fb for an awesome skate park in our community. We will be there often and even more when Diego is ready to get back on his board.
Our respect for your work and what you do.
Sandy Z. Duran”
A very unfortunate event left Diego down but now out. We, at Team Pain, are glad that Diego made a recovery and is able to enjoy the world. Thank you Sandy, for sharing the story. We appreciate your kind words and your son’s love for skating. Diego, keep doing what you love.
