The city of Lamar, Colorado really took to passion the public input process. They do things differently. When we had the public skatepark meetings for comment on the skatepark design and provide input, they always paired the skatepark meetings to run parallel to larger community wide events. This was an amazing opportunity to show the general public what kinds of programs and amenities the city was planning for their communities. It was most evident when we were visited by very excited toddlers and younger kids that had yet to start skateboarding. They not only were exited that the community was planning such “cool” things in their town, it also showed them and their parents being grateful for their town and officials. On countless community input meetings that we have partaken, Lamar and one other municipality have engaged the community in this wonderful way. We salute the city of Lamar for taking such passion on their community engagement and we look forward for them to make the design concept we created a reality.
