Two years ago today Team Pain collaborated with the band Sleep to bring Orlando an amazing event that benefited the victims and families affected by the tragedy that occurred at Pulse night club. Just over a month after Orlando was devastated by something terrible SLEEP decided that they wanted to do something for the people of Orlando and those specifically affected by the tragedy. After long hiatus, Sleep planned a one-off, non-tour, performance just for Orlando with all of the proceeds going to the victims.
When Sleep began planning the event Team Pain brought the extreme sports and music worlds together. Team Pain organized an auction giving the Orlando public a chance to bid on exclusive and rare autographed items from around the globe. Items included autographed Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, and Tony Alva memorabilia along with brand new music equipment and even complete bicycles and skateboards. Other large music acts contributed acute items like Fleetwood Mac donating a brand new, signed drum and the band Obituary donating a brand new signed drum cymbal.
All of the proceeds from Sleep’s performance and the items auctioned on stage were given directly to the Orlando One Foundation through Thriven Financial. Thriven Financial did an amazing thing by matching, dollar by dollar, everything that was raised throughout the night.
Team Pain wants to thank Matt, Al, and Jason of the band Sleep for all they did. We also want to thank the Beachem Theater for hosting the event along with Lenny Byrd for being an amazing stage host and Santa Cruz Skateboards, PRS guitars, RipNDip, Flogging Molly, Drums Workshop, Orange, Matt Pike, Obituary, Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk, Chuck Treece, Juice Magazine, Tony Alva, Craig Stecyk, Matt Hoffman, Subrosa, Shadow Conspiracy, Native Bikes, Scott Byerly as well as anyone else who donated items.
