Florida’s Cocoa Beach Skate Park is the latest park in our State to become free and open to the public. In the past few years we have been seeing a trend of “pay to play” skate parks becoming free. Parks like the Hillsborough County skateparks (Brandon, Apollo Beach and Jackson Springs), Lake Mary Skate Park in Lake Mary, FL and St. Augustine County Treaty Park are amongst the few that have made similar changes since April 22, 2015, when Florida State Statute number 316:0085 was re-written and changed to assume the known and unknown inherent risks in these activities, so the government is not liable for injuries or damages that occur in public municipal skateparks and other areas where skateboarding is allowed.
